The Red Cross Drug De-addiction Centre, Nawanshahr, under the leadership of Indian Red Cross Society (Punjab branch) secretary Shivdular Singh, organised a drug awareness camp at Government High Smart School, Malpur Arakkan, today. The event was presided over by Headmaster Baljit Kumar, and aimed at educating students about the dangers of drug addiction.

Red Cross project director Chaman Singh addressed the students, discussing the ongoing ‘Nash Mukt Bharat Abhiyan’ nationwide campaign.

Singh provided an overview of the history of the Red Cross and shared inspirational life stories of its founder, Sir Henry Dunant, and Bhai Ghanaiya ji.

He emphasised the importance of being vigilant in identifying signs of drug addiction among youth, and encouraged students to engage in healthy activities like reading and sports.

Counsellor Jaswinder Kaur spoke about the services provided by the de-addiction centre, noting that treatment for drug addiction was offered free of cost at the facility.

Naresh Kumar, a teacher, also shared his thoughts, stressing the need for drug awareness to begin at home.

He called for collective efforts to keep families and communities drug-free.

The event concluded with Headmaster Baljit Kumar expressing gratitude to the Red Cross team for their efforts in raising awareness against the menace of drug abuse. Staff members Harjinder Kaur, Manju Bala, Parminder Kaur, Tarsem Kaur and students were present at the event.
