Chandigarh, August 7
An Additional District and Sessions Judge of the District Court, Chandigarh, has tested positive for Covid-19.
Sources in the court administration said the Judge, who was living at his official residence in Sector 24, was found positive for Covid yesterday and was admitted to a hospital. The staff members who came in his contact in the past few days have been told to observe self-quarantine.
The Punjab and the Haryana High Court as well as the subordinate courts in the states of Punjab and Haryana and the UT have been working in a restrictive manner to prevent the spread of the pandemic since March.
All district and subdivisional courts in Punjab, Haryana and the UT were only taking up bail matters and matters requiring urgent stay/injunction. Efforts are made by judicial officers to avoid crowding of the court. Cases are heard through videoconferencing.
NK Nanda, president, District Bar Association, Chandigarh, said advocates were taking every possible step and helping the court administration to prevent the spread of Covid by following all directions issued in this regard from time to time. — TNS
