Clashes after teenager killed in accident with police vehicle
Srinagar, January 7
Clashes erupted on the outskirts of Srinagar after a teenager died and another person was injured in a road accident involving a police vehicle this morning.
The driver of the police vehicle has been arrested.
The police said the mishap took place when two vehicles, one of which belonged to the Armed Police, collided with a car, resulting in injuries to two persons.
“The injured were shifted to hospital. However, one of them, identified as Tehseen Nazir of Nowgam, succumbed to his injuries, while the other injured was stated to be stable,” a police spokesman said.
The police have registered a case and further investigation in the matter was on in the case.
Soon after the accident, a group of locals tried to torch the police vehicle as they blamed the driver of the vehicle for hitting the car, which led to the death of the teenager.
Meanwhile, clashes erupted in the area which continued for some time. The protesters pelted stones at the police. There were reports that at least three persons were injured in the clashes that followed the mishap. — TNS
