The Shiromani Akali Dal (1920) will contest the forthcoming Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) elections along with the Shiromani Akali Dal (Taksali) and other like-minded parties to free the supreme Sikh body from the control of Badals. This was stated by party president Ravi Inder Singh here today.
Ravi Inder Singh, a former Punjab Speaker, who was talking to mediapersons at a conference organised on the second day of Shaheedi Jor Mela, alleged that the Badal family was misusing the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee for its vested interests.
The SGPC also held a religious congregation at the Diwan Hall of Gurdwara Katalgarh Sahib where SGPC president Gobind Singh Longowal, former SGPC president Kirpal Singh Badungar, Shiromani Akali Dal leaders, including Prem Singh Chandumajra and Daljit Singh Cheema, addressed the gathering. Chandumajra, meanwhile, supported the Citizenship Amendment Act but said the Muslim community should also be included in its purview.
