Zero stubble burning cases so far in Hoshiarpur, says DC

Deputy Commissioner Komal Mittal, while appreciating the efforts being made to prevent stubble burning, said no case in this regard had come to light in the district so far and that teams constituted for the purpose deserved appreciation.

The DC said there was a complete ban on burning paddy stubble and crop residue, adding that it significantly impacted the human health, environment, soil fertility and friendly insects. He said in Hoshiarpur district, the target had been set to have no case of crop residue burning this year and so far, ‘zero’ cases were registered in this regard.

Mittal said control rooms had been established at the district and block levels to provide necessary information and machinery to the farmers regarding the proper management of straw. The DC further said farmers could call these control rooms from 9 am to 6 pm to get information about the stubble management machinery available in their block. Last year, there was a decline of more than 50 per cent in stubble burning cases compared to 2022 in the district and a total of 118 cases were reported. The district administration has praised the farmers for their cooperation in not burning the stubble and urged them to maintain this trend in the future as well.
