A day after the police took out a flag march through main roads here to instil a sense of faith among the residents ahead of the panchayat election, unknown youth opened fire in Sant Nagar last night, panicking the residents of the locality. The colony is dominated by people who belong to the Scheduled Castes and most of them work as sanitation workers.

A team from the city-1 police station reached the spot and began an investigation. The police said the incident was captured on CCTV cameras, adding that it was being examined. Some bullets fired by the miscreants were found on the street.

The residents of the locality said last night at around 10.30 pm, unknown youth opened fire in the air in two streets of Sant Nagar. They said due to that, people of the locality woke up, adding they could not sleep after that because of fear. The residents said similar incidents had been reported to the police a few months back, adding that some suspects were arrested.
