Youth killed, 2 hurt as car falls off bridge in Mohali

A 19-year-old youth died while his two friends were injured when a speeding car fell off a bridge on Airport Road here on Monday night.
The deceased has been identified as Desraj, a resident of Balongi. Desraj used to run a paying guest accommodation in Balongi.
The incident occurred around half an hour past midnight when Desraj, Pradeep, aka Pargat, and Deepak, all residents of Balongi, were going towards Mohali from Sunny Enclave in their car. The car driver, Pradeep, lost control of the vehicle when a stray animal came in front of it. The car hit the bridge on the road and fell off.
The trio was taken to the Civil Hospital where doctors declared Desraj brought dead. Pradeep was later shifted to the PGI where he is undergoing treatment. Deepak was discharged today from the hospital, said the police.
Amardeep Singh, SHO, Balongi police station, said, “The car fell from a height of approximately 15 feet. Desraj was sitting on the seat next to that of the driver. We have initiated inquest proceedings under Section 174 of the CrPC.”
The post-mortem of the victim was conducted at the Civil Hospital in Phase 6 today and the body was handed over to his family members.
