Youth held for ‘killing’ parents
The Dabwali police have claimed to have solved a murder case at Giddar Khera village, where a man and his wife were found dead under suspicious circumstances. The main suspect, Harpal Singh (18), son of the deceased couple, has been arrested, and investigators recovered the iron rod used in the crime, along with burnt strips of sleeping pills.
On September 25, 2024, the police received information about Jaswant Singh (40) and Malkeet Kaur (37) bodies being discovered in a burnt state in a locked room. Initially, Harpal claimed that the incident was a robbery gone wrong. However, the suspicion of the police quickly grew. Five police teams were formed to investigate the case.
It was revealed through investigation that Harpal was the mastermind behind the murders. During questioning, he confessed that he had been studying at Guru Nanak College in Dabwali and had been in a relationship with a girl for about a year. When the girl’s family learned of the relationship, they complained to the college, which prompted Harpal’s parents to confront him and take away his phone.
In a fit of anger, Harpal decided to take revenge. After serving dinner, he mixed sleeping pills in lassi and served the drink to his parents. Later that night, he attacked them with the iron rod, striking his mother and father multiple times before covering their bodies with clothes and setting them on fire to hide the evidence.
Harpal Singh has been taken into custody and will be produced in court.
