Youth duped of Rs 11 lakh in overseas job scam
A youth from Sirsa district, Amit, was tricked into paying Rs 11 lakh by four individuals on the false promise of being sent abroad for work. The police have registered a case and begun an investigation after Amit filed a complaint.
The scam started when Amit’s aunt, Seema and her husband, Subhash, introduced him to a couple, Rakesh and Sunita, from Kharian village. On June 1, 2024, Amit’s relatives visited his home in Gigorani and convinced him that they could arrange a work permit for him abroad. Trusting them, Amit agreed.
They told Amit that he first needed to go to Malaysia for medical tests, after which he would be granted a visa to Singapore. Seema and Subhash also assured Amit that their grandson, Pramod, was already working in Singapore. Believing them, Amit transferred Rs 15,000 to Pramod’s UPI account on August 13, 2024. Over the next few weeks, they collected a total of Rs 11 lakh from Amit.
On September 23, 2024, following Pramod’s instructions, Amit travelled to Malaysia. After staying there for a few days, he was informed that his medical reports would be sent to a company and his job would be arranged soon. However, Pramod told Amit that he needed to return to India, where he would get the Singapore visa.
Once back in India, Amit realised that the visa was never going to come and he had been deceived. He approached the police, who were now investigating the case.
