A 26-year-old man drowned while taking a selfie during a boating trip with friends at Damdama Lake near Sohna on Diwali. His friends attempted to rescue him, but he did not survive.

The victim, identified as Avinash, a resident of Abhaypur village and employee at Buta Nex Company near Damdama village, had gone to the lake on Thursday with three friends: Deepak, Rohit and Manish. According to the police, Avinash lost his balance and fell into the lake while taking selfies. His friends tried their best to save him, but were unsuccessful.

After being alerted, the Sohna police arrived at the scene and too the help of a diver. It took approximately an hour and a half to retrieve Avinash’s body from the lake. He was taken to the Civil Hospital in Sohna, where he was declared dead.

Family members shared that Avinash was soon to be married. Inspector Jagjit Singh, SHO of the Sohna police station, said, “An FIR has been registered.”
