A 24-year-old Jalandhar youth has been arrested after the parents of a 22-year-old girl alleged illegal confinement and rape of their daughter by him.

The girl, who had been missing since September 3, was traced to Delhi on the evening of September 4 and brought back on September 6. An FIR for alleged illegal confinement and rape was registered against the youth on September 7.

While the police await a medical report to confirm rape, a medical committee has been formed to investigate the matter. The police maintain that the preliminary report did not establish sexual assault.

The girl, an employee at Nawanshahr, did not go to her work place on September 2 and 3 and went missing from Nawanshar on September 3. Information regarding her whereabouts was received on September 4 and she was traced to Delhi from where she was taken by her uncle.

The girl was brought back to Jalandhar on September 6.

ACP West Harshpreet Singh said, “The initial MLR report does not confirm sexual assault or any kind of injury indicating the same. However, a formal committee under the Civil Surgeon will furnish a fresh report regarding it. The boy has been arrested.” BJP state president Sunil Jakhar, who visited the hopistal and met the girl’s mother today, said, “We are awaiting the completion of formal investigation in the case.”
