Youth advised against using tobacco products in Kargil, campaign launched
Chairman and Chief Executive Councillor of the Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council (LAHDC), Kargil, Mohd Jaffer Akhoon attended the launch of the “Tobacco-Free Youth Campaign 2.0” on Tuesday in Kargil. The event took place at Government Boys’ Higher Secondary School, Baroo.
During the event, Akhoon emphasised the importance of combating various forms of addiction, particularly tobacco use, and urged students to avoid harmful habits like smoking. He spoke about the role of willpower in overcoming addiction and encouraged the youth to lead healthier lives.
Akhoon also highlighted improvements in the facilities provided by government schools and hospitals in Kargil, stating that they now compare favourably to those in other states. He further informed the attendees that the council has requested the Centre and the CBSE to consider conducting school examinations in November-December, taking into account the harsh winter conditions in the region. He expressed hope that this proposal would be approved soon.
Akhoon praised the ongoing remedial classes and assured that both the Council and the UT administration are working to enhance these efforts.
