Young entrepreneur wins plaudits for vermicompost venture
Naveen Kumar, Vice-Chancellor of Chaudhary Sarwan Kumar Himachal Pradesh Krishi Vishvavidyalaya, Palampur, visited a farm of a young entrepreneur who is engaged in large-scale vermicompost production in the Upper Behli area of Mandi district.
The visit highlighted the growing potential of organic agricultural practices and the vital role of young entrepreneurs in driving such initiatives.
Harshul (28), who hails from Nirmand in Kullu district, had taken on lease 12 bighas of land to set up his vermicompost unit last year. With technical support from KVK, Mandi, his venture aims to meet the increasing demand for quality organic compost in agriculture and horticulture.
Currently, his unit produces 250 tonnes of vermicompost annually under brand name ‘’Suket Compost’’. Harshul plans to expand his operations by establishing a horticulture demonstration and nursery unit at Chandru village, where he has already taken another 50 bighas of land on lease.
The Vice-Chancellor commended Harshul for his impressive venture, particularly noting that as an engineering graduate, his transition into agriculture was an inspiring example for other young professionals.
VC Naveen Kumar underlined how such innovative initiatives reflected the potential of entrepreneurship in the agricultural sector and how these could significantly contribute to boosting the rural economy. He reaffirmed the university’s commitment to supporting young entrepreneurs and promoting innovative solutions to boost agricultural productivity in Himachal Pradesh.
