Yamunanagar residents demand direct road to under-construction medical college

Yamunanagar, February 13

The Haryana Government is constructing the building of a medical college in Panjupur village of Yamunanagar district. However, due to no direct connectivity between the college and the Yamunanagar city, residents have demanded that a direct road be built from Vishwakarma Chowk here to the under-construction Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur Singh Medical College.

In the absence of a direct road, the local residents have to travel several kilometres through different roads to reach the college.

A special road from the chowk to the medical college would make it easy for the commuters as the distance would be reduced to 3 km.

Congress leader Satpal Kaushik said, “The Haryana Government should construct a direct road from Vishwakarma chowk in Yamunanagar to the under-construction medical college being built in Panjupur village of the district.”

He further said in case of an emergency, it would pose a significant challenge to the patients due to delayed medical services, if the road was not built.

Kaushik has written two letters to Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar regarding the same.

In September 2023, CM Khattar had performed the bhoomi pujan and inaugurated the construction of the medical college, being built at a cost of Rs 1.2 crore. The project would be complete in around 30 months.

Under this initiative, a 100-seat medical college, a 500-bed hospital, a nursing college and physiotherapy institute would be constructed.

“This medical college would certainly provide much-needed healthcare services to the residents of Yamunanagar and the neighbouring state of Uttar Pradesh. However, the government should construct a direct road so that in emergency, the patients can be taken to the college without any delay,” said Anil Kumar, a resident of Professor Colony here.

MLA Arora said this issue had been brought to his notice and that he was working to resolve it at the earliest.

A detailed project report (DPR) of the proposed road had been prepared by authorities of the Public Works Department (PWD) here and it had been sent to the government for approval, he added.

“If the government approves the DPR, the departments concerned shall start the process to acquire land for this proposed road,” said the MLA.
