Nostalgia blended with the clouds, creating a mist of memories at Yadavindra Public School (YPS) today as alumni and current students gathered to celebrate the school’s 76th Annual Sports Day. Over 1,400 students participated in the event, which marked this special occasion. The celebration brought together the YPS board of governors, school authorities, teachers, parents and alumni, including members of the silver jubilee batch (1999), golden jubilee batch (1974), and veteran Yadavandrians (OYs). The event was followed by a school dinner.

The sports day honoured the year’s sporting achievements and also showcased the physical and mental strength of the students. It’s an event that all Yadavindrians eagerly look forward to — a moment to celebrate and motivate the spirit of sportsmanship among the children.

The YPS community came together in their traditional style, culminating in a formal dinner where alumni of all ages mingled and participated in various activities. The soft breeze carried a sense of nostalgia as old friendships were rekindled and memories flooded back. For many, it felt like a reunion with an extended family, as alumni exchanged warm greetings and familiar faces.

Nakul Gupta, Satbir Khatra and Gurjit Kohli from the 1999 batch, who reunited after 25 years, said that it felt like it was yesterday that they were in school, adding that everything seems the same. Nooran Dhindsa, Geetika Mehta and Ripujeet Sidhu from the silver jubilee batch said after meeting old friends, it felt like a pledge that they would never be apart as long as they are alive.

A shared sentiment among alumni was the lasting impact of the school on their lives. Saket Bansal, Mazhal Ali, and Vishal Jain, also from the ISC 1999 batch, said the discipline instilled at the school had guided them through life’s ups and downs.

Former Union Minister and YPS alumnus Pawan Bansal remarked, “I am not too old and I still feel young when I am on these lush green fields.”

YPS headmaster Navin Kumar Dixit welcomed the guests, emphasising the strong bond among alumni. “It only takes a few words — ‘I am from the same school’ — and an instant connection is made,” he said. “I am so happy to meet old students and share in their insights about the school and the brotherhood that binds us.”

Colonel RPS Brar (retd), the president of the Aitchison Yadavindra Old Students’ Association (AYOSA), echoed similar sentiments, saying, “It feels like it was yesterday.”

Japinder Bajwa, Smriti Jassar and Jeevanjot Kathuria of the silver jubilee batch said that the reunion was a moment they would cherish forever. They added that meeting friends and former batchmates was unforgettable. Rajdeep Ahluwalia, Deepjyot and Jassan Dullet, also from the Silver Jubilee batch, added that even though it had been 25 years since they had graduated from the school, the school continued to guide them.
