S Korean doctors protest new medical admission policy
Seoul: Thousands of senior doctors rallied in the South Korean capital, Seoul, on Sunday to express their support for junior doctors who have been on strike for nearly two weeks over a government plan to sharply increase the number of medical school admissions. The rally came as the government said it would begin to take steps Monday to suspend the doctors’ licenses of nearly 9,000 medical interns and residents for defying government orders to end their walkouts, which have disrupted hospital operations. ap
10 years on, Malaysia may renew hunt for MH370
Kuala Lumpur: Malaysia’s government on Sunday said it might renew the hunt for missing Malaysia Airlines flight MH370 after a US technology firm proposed a fresh search in the southern Indian Ocean where the plane is believed to have crashed a decade ago. Transport Minister Anthony Loke said Texas-based Ocean Infinity had proposed another “no find, no fee” basis to scour the seabeds, expanding from the site where it first searched in 2018. PTI
UK to bar entry of extremist preachers from Af, Pak
London: Hate preachers with extremist Islamist views from countries such as Pakistan, Afghanistan and Indonesia will be blocked from entering Britain under new plans being drafted by the government, according to a UK media report on Sunday. The Daily Telegraph reports the government is concerned about a “shocking increase” in extremist activity and officials are being deputed to identify extremists from overseas to be added to visa warning lists. Filmmaker Zoya Akhtar, British Indian chef win honours
London: Filmmaker Zoya Akhtar and British Indian chef Asma Khan were among the winners of the annual India-UK Achievers Honours in London, which recognises the achievements of Indian students and alumni who have pursued an international programme of study. Akhtar was conferred the Living Legend Award in recognition of her work in furthering an understanding of India on the global stage. Asma, who runs women-led Darjeeling Express restaurant in London, was honoured in the field of arts, culture and entertainment.
