Expert who said humans lived for 900 yrs sacked

Moscow: Russia’s science and higher education ministry has dismissed the head of a prestigious genetics institute who sparked controversy by contending that humans once lived for some 900 years and that the shorter lives of modern humans are due to their ancestors’ sins, state news agency RIA-Novosti said. Although the report did not give reasons for firing Alexander Kudryavtsev, the influential Russian Orthodox Church called it religious discrimination. AP

House where Suu Kyi spent 15 yrs to be auctioned

Bangkok: A court in military-controlled Myanmar on Thursday ordered the family home of ousted leader Aung San Suu Kyi, where she spent 15 years under house arrest, be put on auction in March following a bitter decades-long legal dispute between her and her brother. The decision by a district court in Yangon, the country’s largest city, came nearly one and a half years after the supreme court upheld a special appeal lodged by Suu Kyi’s brother Aung San Oo. AP
