At least 10 people were killed in Afghanistan’s Baghlan province when a gunman opened fire on Sufis participating in a weekly ritual at a local shrine, the country’s interior ministry said on Friday.

It was not immediately clear who was behind the attack. The incident took place in Afghanistan’s remote Nahrin district.

After taking control in 2021, the Taliban had vowed to restore security to the war-torn nation. Attacks have continued, many of them claimed by the local arm of the militant Islamic State (IS) group.

In September, 14 people were killed and six others injured in an attack claimed by Daesh in central Afghanistan.
