World Mental Health Day observed at DMCH
The Department of Psychiatry and Department of Clinical Psychology, Dayanand Medical College and Hospital observed World Mental Health Day on the theme ‘its time to prioritize mental health in work place’ by conducting an awareness session for medical students, nursing students and for administrative staff.
Bipin Gupta, Secretary of the DMC&H Managing Society, emphasised the importance of fostering positive relationships with subordinates to maintain a healthy and productive workplace environment.
He also stressed the value of practicing mindfulness and not being overly concerned with minor day-to-day issues.
In his message, Dr GS Wander, principal, emphasised that mental and physical health were closely linked and complemented each other. He also highlighted the importance of incorporating practices like meditation and yoga into daily routines, encouraging individuals to engage in these activities for overall well-being and balance.
Dr Navkiran S Mahajan, professor and Head of the Department of Psychiatry, DMCH, addressed the stigma about mental health. Healthcare workers and medical professionals are at high risk of depression, drug addiction and suicide due to the more pressure at workplace.
Further, she shared valuable tips for reducing workplace stress, including effective time management, practicing yoga and meditation, and incorporating physical activity into daily routines.
A poster-making competition was also conducted to give information about mental health awareness and an informative play about mental health management was also presented by the students.
