World Earth Day: 'When we care for the Earth, we care for ourselves'

Rallies, poster making competitions, tree plantation drives, quiz and video presentations marked the World Earth Day celebrations in various schools and college of the city on Friday.
Sanskriti KMV School
Sanskriti KMV School marked the World Earth Day with activities widespread to invoke respect, concern and action to conserve the natural resources. Moving with the theme- Invest in our planet, activities like in-campus plantation drive, outdoor colouring programme, virtual visit to national parks and sanctuaries, poster and slogan creation and awareness march to the classrooms were held. Students through the poetical recitation expressed their loving concern for the greener earth. Rachna Monga, Principal, in her special address to the students, mentioned the importance of being receptive to the urgent need towards securing the natural resources.
Innocent Hearts School
Various activities were organised for the students of Eco Club by giving the message of ‘Go Green’ in all the five schools of Innocent Hearts group. Students of Grade VII took out a rally and gave the message of planting more and more trees for the protection of nature. Charts, flash cards were also made related to this subject on which beautiful messages were written for the protection of the earth. Along with this, they participated in the plantation drive and planted saplings of plants that provide oxygen round the clock and medicines plants like tulsi, aloe vera, cactus. Along with planting saplings, the students of Eco Club went to each Grade and gave the message of Go Green, explaining the importance of trees and plants. A drawing and colouring competition was organised for the students of Grade III and IV. Extempore competition was organised for the students of Grade V and VI based on the theme ‘Invest in our planet’. Enactment like earth activity was done by the students of Grade VIII in which children acted like earth. A special prayer meeting was organised for the children in which the students took an oath to protect the environment. Along with this, the children were motivated to conserve the natural wealth.
Lyallpur Khalsa College for Women
The Department of Geography in association with the NSS Department of Lyallpur Khalsa College for Women celebrated the Earth Day. Around 60 students from the departments of Geography and NSS actively participated in these celebrations. Principal Dr Navjot planted various saplings and inspired the students to seed more and more plants. As this year the theme of the Earth Day was ‘Invest In Our Planet’, the Principal urged the students to save trees, protect them, plant umpteen plants and trees and to safeguard our flora, fauna and animals. She also said that taking active steps to preserve nature is the only way to save our mother Earth. Students planted various trees at their homes, wrote slogans, provided clean drinking water to quench the thirst of birds in sweltering summers and vowed to continue these practices on a daily basis. Towards the end, the students were also shown a documentary termed ‘How To Save Our Earth’. The NSS officers Manita, Manjeet and Atma Singh urged the students to not only thrive to maintain the beauty, health and piousness of Earth, but also to aware the society regarding the same objective.
St Soldier Group of Institutions
World Earth Day was celebrated in all branches of St Soldier Group of Institutions. The students, by doing face painting and dressed up as earth, trees, plants, forests etc., threw light on the crisis looming on it and made them aware of its dire consequences. The students said the way we are polluting the earth, the coming generation will have to borrow breath and it will become impossible to live on this beautiful earth. The students made the model of the earth inscribed on their faces and made them aware of its beauty and told that its glory and beauty is from the trees, green forests. On this occasion, students and staff together planted new saplings in the institutions and asked everyone to plant saplings nearby.
Kanya Maha Vidyalaya
Kanya Maha Vidyalaya celebrated World Earth Day. The celebrations were organised by the Department of Science, Institutions Innovation Council (IIC) of KMV and NCC. During the celebrations, various activities such as poster making, slogan writing, rangoli, choreography; tree donation etc. were organised for the students. More than 200 students from different departments of the college participated in the celebration. The students through their posters and slogans gave a message of reducing pollution, improving air quality and also to improve surroundings by making the Mother Earth clean and green.
Apeejay Institute of Management and Engg
Apeejay Institute of Management and Engineering Technical Campus celebrated World Earth Day to sensitise the students about various eco-friendly practices that can be incorporated in everyday life to stop environmental degradation and help in preservation of nature and natural resources. An extempore competition was organised to mark the celebrations and students expressed their views and concerns on a variety of topics related to how to save our planet from devastation and taking strict measures to curb environmental pollution. The topics included ‘Conservation of Natural Resources’, ‘Loss of Bio Diversity’, ‘Wildlife preservation’, ‘Optimum Utilisation of Resources’ etc. The extempore competition was followed by an expert lecture on “Awareness of Rainwater Harvesting”. Pahulpreet Singh was the resource person for this session. Singh explained the importance and process of Rainwater Harvesting to the students.
Guru Amar Dass School
Guru Amar Dass Public School (Junior and senior wing) celebrated Earth Day. Special assembly was organised in which different activities like speech and poem recitation on save mother earth was presented by the students. Poster making and slogan writing was also done to make people aware about the importance of Mother Earth. Rally was also organised in the school campus in which students held placards on Earth Day. State Public School
On World Earth Day, State Public School, Jalandhar Cantt, organised different activities on different levels. The day started with majestic morning assembly themed on Earth Day. Students presented and demonstrated poem, speech and play to observe this day. Students of kindergarten attired in blue paid their tribute to by learning the importance of Earth and its safety. Classes 1st to 5th participated in the ‘Bird Feeder Making’ activity and showed their love and concern for the bird, a very valuable part of our eco system. Also, cycle rally was also organised to aware the people about how to preserve our motherland. Students of 9th to 12th made compost bin for the garbage to be best used and recycled. Students at every level showed their marvelous involvement and felt proud to contribute their task in preserving our Mother Earth.
CJS Public School
An ‘Adopt a Plant Activity’ was organised on the occasion of Earth Day in the school campus under the guidance of school management and Principal Dr Ravi Suta. In this activity students of LKG, VI and VII had adopted a plant and watered the plants and realised the importance of trees in life. They were also told about usage and advantages of planting trees. On this occasion, chairperson Neena Mittal and Principal Dr Ravi Suta were also present. They appreciated our little ones and motivated them for their future endeavors.
The Nobel School
By keeping this concept in mind The Nobel School celebrated Earth Day in the school premises. Little Nobelians of pre-wing planted the tree with their little hands and vowed to nourish them for the future with full enthusiasm. They were so happy while planting them with their Incharges Charu, Sweety, Suman and Meenu. The importance of the trees was explained through a small animated video. Principal Amita Sharma appreciated the teachers for their efforts and took a promise from the kids to plant a tree on their birthdays.
PCM SD College for Women
The NCC Unit of Prem Chand Markanda SD College organised an ’Earth Fair’ to commemorate the International Earth Day. The event commenced with a dance performance in the morning assembly shedding light on the importance of conserving soil followed by an oath “Save Soil, Save Earth.” After the assembly, Principal, Dr Pooja Prashar and Surinder Saini, General Secretary, Jalandhar Welfare Society, flagged off the cycle rally. The rally started from the college towards Alaska Chowk via SD Road, continuing towards Ajit Saini Cultural Theatre at Government Model Co-Education Senior Secondary School, Ladowali Road and finally towards Jalandhar city Railway Station. At the Railway Station, the students performed a small act, spreading awareness on “Save Soil, Save Earth”, along with a pledge to make conscious efforts towards saving soil. At Shivani Park, Model Town, the students distributed pamphlets and spread awareness through poetry and speeches. The Department of Psychology organised a poster making competition on the same theme.
Ivy World School
Ivy World School organised a bookmark and poster making activity on the occasion of Earth Day. Principal S Chauhan acknowledged the efforts of the students, parents and teachers. She enlightened everyone on the significance of the Earth Day. Apart from this, she emphasised on the importance of commitment to learn more about the environment and demonstrate how one can help in protecting it. The activities were unique and aimed at eminence of the extra skills that the children are encompassing. The principal emphasised on the significance of social learning in a student’s life. Further, they motivated the students to be a part of such activities and keep themselves illuminated with knowledge and awareness.
DIPS Schools
On the occasion of World Earth Day, DIPS Schools organised programmes on various issues related to the environment and the message of Save Earth, Save Life was given. The students told through debates, songs, plays and posters that the level of pollution has reached alarming levels. That’s why we should start a campaign to save the environment. Trees, water and natural sources should be used properly so that the earth can be safe. By planting saplings with the teachers in the school the children took a pledge not to misuse water, trees and natural things. MD Tarwinder Singh said it is natural to be concerned for our future globally because of the way nature is getting polluted today.
MGN Public School
To spread awareness among students regarding the conservation of the earth, World Earth Day was celebrated in MGN Public School Kapurthala. Various activities conducted by the students of different classes to make the Earth pollution free. The students made collage from dry leaves, twigs and grass. Students went to nearby park to enjoy nature and shared experienced with the students of other classes. The students also made the bird nests from the waste material. The students of the higher classes made paper bags to replace plastic bags. They also presented PPT to maintain the natural environment.
Army Public School
Students of Army Public School, Beas, marked the 52nd anniversary of Earth Day to remind themselves of their duties towards mother nature. The students and teachers contributed their part to make a difference and engage in environmentally conscious practices. Inter-house poster making competition and plantation was done in the school campus.
MGN Public School
Primary wing of MGN Public School, Adarsh Nagar, celebrated Earth Day. This day was observed to raise awareness about the importance of protecting our planet. All the students of classes 1 to 5 enthusiastically participated to spread the message that a green future is a prosperous future. Various subject integrated activities were conducted in school like making crowns, bands, badges and charts with slogans and themes of recyling, planting trees ,saving water and fuel showcasing their tangible action to safeguard the Earth.
Shiv Jyoti Public School
Earth Day was also observed in Shiv Jyoti Public School. Co-associate Teachers of Kirti House Sonia Sharma made the students of Classes VII and VIII aware about this day through video presentation (PPT) on Inspiring story of Bhutan in conservation of Earth and recycling of plastic wrappers. Student talk was delivered by Manya of VIII. All the students participated in the activity with full zeal. The activity was performed under the supervision of Nirmal Singh, House Master of Kirti House.
Eklavya School
At Eklavya School, Earth Day celebrations began by motivational lecture given by the educator Shilpa Kapoor to the students. In which she explained ‘What is our role to save earth’. The students of primary and middle school enjoyed art and poster making activity. It was followed by a debate competition with a theme “Role of humans in protecting the Earth”. Tiny tots of the school enjoyed hand printing activity in which they made trees with their hand impressions. At the end, the senior school students took part in plantation of new saplings.
Police DAV Public School
World Earth Day was celebrated with great gusto in the Pre-Primary wing today. The students of UKG and first standard brought seeds and planted them in pots to learn and observe the process of germination. The students of classes LKG and Nursery brought saplings of trees and planted them in the school premises. Principal Dr Rashmi Vij and Head of the pre-primary wing Savita Sharma who were present on the occasion also took part in the plantation and encouraged the children to keep their surroundings clean and save natural resources by using them wisely. The teachers also presented an activity to create awareness among the students about the importance of waste segregation and usage of three-coloured dustbins and also presented a story based on the same theme. Children also did craft work and drawing related to the topic and pledged to ‘Go Green’. Posters showcasing the need to keep the Earth green and clean were made by students of the senior wing.
Hindu Kanya College
Ek Bharat Shrestha Bharat Club of Hindu Kanya College, Kapurthala, staged a quiz competition on the topic, different festivals and food cultures of India to attach young students with their versatile Indian culture, rich heritage, cultural roots and Indian ethos. Through this event students were enlightened about the spirit of religious fervour, secular outlook and unity in diversity promoted by Indian festivals and scrumptious food varieties of India. Four teams from the college participated in this event. Team- A consisting of Anjali and Ramandeep Kaur, students from B.A-4th Semesters got the first position. Varinder Kaur, Head, Department of Political Science, hosted the quiz competition as its quiz master and encouraged students to imbibe the unified spirit working behind the Indian culture, festivals and its diverse cuisine.
