The Haryana State Women Commission received around 11,000 cases in the past two years and a majority of these pertained to live-in relationships, extramarital affairs and cybercrime.

Renu Bhatia, Chairperson of the commission, stated this while interacting with mediapersons here on Tuesday. She claimed that around 9,700 cases had been resolved by the commission so far.

“In this modern era, young women are facing a lot of harassment as they come into relationships without knowing much about their partners. Many times, their partners do not tell them that they are married and also have kids. I want to give a message to all girls that they should not divert their life by going the wrong way at an age when they are to build their careers,” said Renu.

She maintained that the number of cases of domestic violence was also considerable. “We get complaints of domestic violence, but the lack of tolerance is the main issue. Balancing life has become tough as education has been confined only to books, and perhaps there is some decline in moral education,” she added.

She said the commission was constantly trying to investigate each case with seriousness and trying to ensure justice to women.

Earlier, Renu, while inspecting the One-stop centre, located on the premises of Mini Secretariat, Narnaul, said the centre was an excellent platform for the victims of domestic violence. “Trained women employees are present at the centre to help women 24X7. Apart from this, women can dial 181 to get counselling from home,” she added.

On this occasion, she also reviewed the complaints received at the One-stop centre. In many cases, she herself made phone calls to the victims and talked to them.

“The Haryana Government is working with commitment for the safety and uplift of women. At the One-stop centre, women are not only provided temporary shelter, but also legal aid and emergency assistance. Along with this, police assistance and counselling are given to them. Health services are also provided to the victim women,” she added.
