Rampur, August 7

Charkha artisans celebrated the 10th National Handicrafts Day with great enthusiasm and fervour in Sholtu. The event saw the participation of 335 women from the Charkha Self-Help Group operated by JSW. The programme commenced with the lighting of lamp by Kinnaur Superintendent of Police Abhishek S.

Women presented cultural programmes, in which artisans from Chagaon, Panvi, Shong, Katgaon, Nichar, Sangla and Sholtu participated. The women from Chagaon secured the first position, while the women from Sholtu claimed the second position.

In his address, the SP highlighted the significance of National Handicrafts Day and emphasised the importance of women being well-informed about their rights.

He mentioned the availability of numerous women’s cells and helpline numbers, which they could use to file complaints at any time.

He also praised the charkha project initiated by JSW, recognising it as a significant step towards women’s empowerment.
