Woman’s Instagram hacked, FIR lodged
The Navi Baradari police have lodged an FIR over cyber harassment to woman after her Instagram account was hacked and her photos with objectionable captions and comments had gone viral. The police have launched an investigation, however, the accused is yet to be identified.
According to the police, the accused hacked the woman's account, accessed her photos and blackmailed her. The victim’s husband discovered the incident and lodged a complaint, leading to a police investigation.
The accused had allegedly sent the photos with objectionable captions back to the woman and threatened to make them viral if his demands were not met. When the victim confronted the hacker through her account, she received further threats.
A technical investigation revealed that the account was hacked from the accused’s phone and the same device was used to operate the woman’s Instagram account. The police have traced the accused’s phone number and are working to verify his identity.
The SHO, Navi Baradari, said investigation in the case was ongoing and an FIR under relevant sections of the IT Act and BNS had been registered. He said the accused would be arrested soon besides he urged the public to remain cautious against cybercrimes.
He advised avoiding suspicious links, sharing personal passwords or engaging with unknown accounts to prevent hacking incidents.
The police authorities emphasised the importance of reporting such crimes promptly to ensure swift action and protection from cyber threats.
