Woman shot dead, two injured over trivial issue at Basarke Bhaini

A woman was shot dead and two other members of her family were injured in a dispute that occurred between two families at Basarke Bhaini village here on Monday night. The deceased has been identified as Amarjeet Kaur while her husband Balwinder Singh received bullet injuries. A 9-year-old girl in the family was also injured in the clash. Later, the police claimed to have arrested one of the key accused, Sheru.
The kin of the victim family stated that children of two families of Balwinder Singh and Lakhwinder Singh, respectively, fought with each other in the street. To settle a score with Balwinder Singh, the accused, Lakhwinder Singh, barged into the victim’s house along with Arjun Singh, Sajjan Singh, Manna Singh, Sheru, Sunny, Jajbir Singh, Sonu, Love and Dilbag Singh of the same village. The accused were armed with pistols and other sharp-edged weapons.
Initially, attackers fired gunshots in the air and abused the family members of Balwinder Singh. When Balwinder tried to snatch the pistol, the accused fired at him. Amarjit Kaur got seriously injured in the attack. The attackers also used sharp-edged weapons against the family of Balwinder.
Amarjit Kaur, Balwinder Singh and daughter were injured in the incident. They were rushed to a private hospital where Amarjit Kaur was declared dead. The Gharinda police have registered a case against 10 suspects while the main accused, Sheru, has been arrested.
Karampal Singh, SHO, Gharinda police station, said, “The clash happened over a trivial issue leading to the death of a woman. We have registered a case under relevant sections against 10 suspects and raids are being conducted to arrest the accused persons.” Meanwhile, residents of Basarke Bhaini village claimed that attackers smuggle drugs in the village and have links with bad elements.
