District Magistrate of Nuh (Mewat), Dhirendra Khadgata, dismissed a woman sarpanch of Pachgaon village for submitting a fake birth certificate to contest the last panchayat elections held in 2022.

Reena, who was elected sarpanch of Pachgaon village on November 2, 2022, allegedly did not complete the minimum age of 21 as on the date of nomination and had filed her nomination papers on the basis of a fake birth certificate.

Rafeeq, a village resident, had lodged a complaint with the District Magistrate about the same.

The DM marked an inquiry to the SDM of Taoru subdivision, who conducted an inquiry into the allegations by checking the documents and recording the statements of both — the woman sarpanch and the complainant.

During perusal of the documents, the SDM found that Reena’s date of birth was different in her school records, anganwadi centre and open school records. As such, the SDM served a notice upon her, but she could not give a satisfactory reply. She failed yet again when she was personally summoned on June 11.

After going through the documentary evidences put before him, the SDM directed the District Magistrate to dismiss her from the sarpanch’s post.

Khadgata confirmed with The Tribune that he dismissed the sarpanch of Pachgaon village under Section 51 (3) of the Haryana Panchayati Raj Act, 1994, on Friday because it was proved in a magisterial inquiry she was not of 21 years of age as on the date of filing the nomination papers.
