Woman among 3 booked for duping two of Rs 41 lakh
In the lure of green pastures, a Batala resident was among the two, who fell in the trap of fake travel agents and lost their hard earned money.
The Amritsar (Rural) police have booked three persons, including a woman, in this regard while no arrest was made in both the cases so far.
The Kathunangal police booked Surpreet Kaur for duping Sukhdev Singh, a resident of Bajjuman village, in Batala (Gurdaspur) of
Rs 27.81 lakh for sending his son Bikramjit Singh to Canada on a work visa.
In another incident an FIR was registered against Nawanshahr resident Gurinderjit Singh for defrauding a local resident of Rs 13.21 lakh on the pretext of sending him abroad.
Sukhdev Singh, a resident of Bajjuman village, in Batala (Gurdaspur), in his complaint to the police alleged that Surpreet Kaur duped him of
Rs 27.81 lakh for sending his son Bikramjit Singh to Canada on a work visa. She neither returned his money nor sent his son to Canada. Nevertheless, it took five months for the police to register an FIR in on the basis of complaint lodged by Sukhdev.
The complainant alleged that Surpreet runs an education centre near Khalsa College in which different courses were offered to students aspiring to go abroad. He said his son Bikramjit Singh cleared his Class XII 12th exam and joined a cookery course at Surpreet’s centre in 2018. He said after his son completed the course, Surpreet lured him to send his son to Canada on a work permit. He said Surpreet assured to provide labour market impact assessment (LMIA) for facilitating his son’s settlement in that country. He said the “package” was settled at Rs 30 lakh. Sukhdev said he gave Surpreet money on different dates. But, she neither send his son to Canada nor returned his money, said Sukhdev.
A case under relevant section of the BNS and Section 13 of Punjab Travel Professions Regulation Act was registered against Surpreet Kaur, a resident of New Golden Avenue here.
In the second case, Akashdeep Singh, a resident of Jheete Kalan village alleged that Gurinderjit Singh, a resident of Guru Teg Bahadur Nagar, Nawanshahr, defrauded him of
Rs 13.21 lakh for sending him abroad. A case was registered against Gurinderjit following district attorney’s legal report.
