With 44 cases, Chandigarh sees biggest single-day spike

The city today reported 44 new cases of Covid, which is the biggest single-day spike in the UT so far. The second highest single-day spike of 35 cases was reported on July 26.
As many as 28 of the 44 new cases were contacts of Covid patients, mostly family members. Six of these cases were reported from Khuda Lahora, five from Sector 44, two from Sector 20, four from Dhanas, two each from Sectors 47 and 41, one each from Sectors 7, 42, 22, 19, and Kishangarh. Besides, contacts of patients also tested positive in Dhanas and Sector 32.
Three of a family tested positive in Sector 46. Sectors 16, 23, 26, 40, 41, 42, 45, 49 and 55, Raipur Khurd, Khuda Jassu and Ram Darbar also reported a case each.
Eight of those who tested positive today are over 60 years of age. The city Covid tally jumped to 978 today with 353 active cases. The UT has reported 14 Covid-induced deaths so far.
Meanwhile, 12 patients were discharged today. The count of recoveries in the city has reached 611.
