When Yechury mentioned about ‘Do Bharat’, took on drug menace
‘Do Bharat ka nirmaan ho raha hai. Ek chamakta hua Bharat ameer ke liye aur tarasta hua Bharat gareeb ke liye.’ CPI (M) general secretary Sitaram Yechury had stated this when he was here at Jandiala Manjki village before the Lok Sabha elections this year. He had then urged people to be alert and vote smartly. Yechury breathed his last today.
He had held a rally in Jalandhar on May 30 to appeal to voters to vote for Purshottam Lal Bilga, CPI (M) candidate from Jalandhar. During his speech he had also raised the issue of drug menace in the state.
He cited examples of Shaheed Bhagat Singh and Shaheed Udham Singh, and how both had raised their voices against the cruelty and motivated others to fight for their rights. But today drugs were affecting Punjab’s youth, which should not happen. During his speech, the general secretary had also raised the issue of rising unemployment in the country. “42 per cent youngsters who have BA degree are jobless,” he had said then.
He had then attacked the saffron party by saying that ‘bulldozer rajneeti’ had started in UP as homes of Muslims were being razed. “Ye na socho ki sirf Muslim pe hamla hoga, koi nahee bachega,” the Left leader had said while addressing the gathering.
He had also pointed out to the statement made by PM Modi about Mahatma Gandhi in which the former mentioned that nobody knew about Gandhi until a movie was made about him. “The BJP’s end is nearing and the PM very well knows this, which is why he is making bizarre statements like this,” Yechury had said, adding that, “He should know that even before he was born, Mahatma Gandhi had been nominated for the Nobel Prize five times.”
