WITH the festival season leading to a surge in health issues like diarrhoea, malaria, dengue and chikungunya, the declining air quality index (AQI) further doubles the risk of various disorders. As the AQI worsens due to multiple factors, the authorities appear content with measures that have minimal impact on the ground. The indiscriminate bursting of crackers on occasions such as Diwali, weddings and community events, along with the failure to manage roadside dust, poor road conditions and the burning of industrial and civic waste, have all exacerbated the pollution problem. Water sprinklers and anti-smog guns need to be installed at intervals of every 100 m. Devinder Singh Surjewala, Faridabad

Dengue cases rising in Gurugram

IT is a matter of grave concern that dengue cases are rising daily in Gurugram district. The main reason for the spread of this serious disease is the increasing number of mosquito larvae, which spread infection as they travel to various places. However, it is reassuring that the district administration has formed dedicated health committees to help control the situation.
