What our readers say: Garbage near Manali bus stand
TOURISTS coming to Manali are welcomed with foul smell that the garbage from a temporary dumping site near the bus stand gives off. Heaps of garbage are thrown here, posing a health hazard, besides being an eyesore to tourists and residents alike. Stray animals often scatter garbage on the road, much to the residents’ dismay. The Manali Municipal Council had claimed that, due to the non-acceptance of garbage from areas outside Manali, the garbage of Manali town and its suburbs would be disposed of properly. However, these claims seem to be false. The Manali MC should not accumulate waste in the town area, and find some isolated uninhabited sites for the scientific dumping of waste. Gautam Thakur, Manali
Big vehicles causing traffic jams
EVEN as there’s hardly any parking at the SDA complex in Kasumpti, Shimla, many commuters use big cars to travel to their workplaces, causing a lot of hindrance to traffic movement. Apart from a few parking spots, the roads are quite narrow, especially for big vehicles. If the employees and officers use smaller vehicles to travel to their workplaces, the traffic flow can improve a lot. Suresh, Kasumpti
