The damages caused by floods last year in Kullu’s Tirthan valley have not been repaired. The valley's connecting roads, bridges, footpaths and many buildings were damaged in the disaster. The condition of the pedestrian bridges in the valley and the retaining walls on this road has deteriorated. Although people have built temporary bridges for commuting, these are unsafe and will not last long. The authorities concerned must look into the matter at the earliest. —Kishan Chand, Kandidhar, Kullu

Water shortage irks villagers

There is an outcry among the residents for water in the Raila panchayat of Sainj valley, Kullu, as villagers have been yearning for a drop of water to drink for the past 10 days. The Raila lift drinking water scheme, a project that was constructed at a cost of Rs 7 crore, was completed after 13 years. However, it has not been able to run properly even for a month. All the tanks are cracked and are leaking which raises a question about the quality of work. The authorities of the Jal Shakti Department have passed the buck on to the Electricity Department. However, the latter states that there is a fault in the pump house of the scheme. —Shiv Ram, Raila, Kullu
