The AQI level in Delhi-NCR soared to 454 on Thursday, placing the region firmly in the “severe” category. In response, the government has enforced GRAP-3 (Graded Response Action Plan) measures to curb pollution levels. Meanwhile, the Supreme Court has reprimanded the governments of Punjab and Haryana, urging them to take stricter action against stubble burning. The court has directed the states to file criminal cases against farmers responsible for stubble burning and hold officials accountable for their inaction. Despite these directives, political leaders have resorted to a blame game rather than taking concrete steps to address the crisis. This lack of action could amount to contempt of court, and the SC should consider initiating contempt proceedings against the authorities failing to implement its orders effectively.

Shut down toll plaza

The daily commuters between Faridabad and Gurugram have become a victim of acute traffic congestion and frequent traffic jams on nearly daily basis due to the poll plaza near Bandhwari village located in between these two cities. Though thousands of vehicles move on this road daily, the authorities have failed to ensure smooth movement of traffic despite charging toll from vehicles. While toll rates have been increased, no relief has come to the commuters from the traffic snarls that have become a routine affair, especially during peak morning and evening hours. The toll plaza needs to be removed immediately.
