‘Web of lies’: Mallikarjun Kharge counters PM Modi’s claims on giving 8-crore jobs

Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge has launched a scathing attack on Prime Minister Narendra Modi, accusing him of weaving a “web of lies” regarding the creation of eight crore jobs.

This comes in response to PM Modi’s claim that the creation of eight crore jobs in the past three-four years had “silenced those spreading fake news about unemployment”. Referring to Modi’s statement in Mumbai yesterday wherein he cited an RBI report on employment, Kharge said, “Narendra Modi ji, yesterday you were weaving a web of lies about providing jobs in Mumbai. I want to remind you again what you said while announcing the NRA (National Recruitment Agency). In August 2020, you said the NRA will prove to be a boon for crores of youth. Through the Common Eligibility Test, it will eliminate multiple examinations and save precious time as well as resources. It will also give a big boost to transparency.”

Kharge’s accusations were a direct response to Modi’s remarks wherein he said, “Those spreading false narratives are enemies of investment, infrastructure development and the country’s growth. Their policies betray the youth and hinder employment. Now, they are being exposed as people reject their lies.” The Congress chief also criticised the government’s handling of educational reforms, stating, “The NTA committed fraud, paper leaks and scams, and the NRA didn’t even conduct exams! The BJP-RSS has taken up the task of ruining the education system and destroying the future of the youth.”

Kharge’s statement reflects dissatisfaction within the opposition regarding the BJP government’s policies and promises. “The NRA, touted as a game-changer for millions of young job seekers, has yet to deliver on its promises. Despite the significant funds allocated to the agency, its inactivity raises questions about the government’s commitment to transparency and efficiency in job recruitment processes,” he said.

As the Budget session approaches on July 23, these issues are likely to gain more traction. The Opposition appears poised to challenge the government’s claims and demand accountability for unfulfilled promises.
