Watch videos, attend 1 online class per week for Punjabi University diploma
Patiala, September 4
After teaching practice shifted from offline to online mode, Punjabi University decided to start some courses wherein students would have to watch videos and attend one online class per week to get their certificates and diplomas.
Students are being enrolled in six-month online certificate course and 12-month online diploma course. As per Punjabi Computer Help Centre’s advertisement, students would attend one online class per week, assist in solving issues in a chat-group and read study material. Department officials said they would provide three weekly videos, which would be uploaded online. Student’s performance would be judged as per assignments and tests, they added.
According to the department, students who clear certificate course would be able to work as graphics designers, audio and video editors, data entry operators and English typist while those opting for diploma course would be able to work as website developers, android app developer and accountants.
A university official said courses were excessively simplified. “Departments are holding online classes for students. These new courses will be completed with a single online class per week,” quipped an assistant professor.
Dr CP Kamboj, course coordinator, said, “The course protocol is in accordance with the massive open online courses (MOOC). The courses have been devised keeping in view online connectivity issues faced by students.” — TNS
