The Land Acquisition Affected Forum of Himachal Pradesh has condemned the detention of prominent environmentalist Sonam Wangchuk and his Ladakhi associates at the Singhu border in Delhi and demanded their unconditional release. The condemnation comes following the detention of approximately 150 activists who were marching from Ladakh to Delhi under the leadership of environmental activist Sonam Wangchuk.

Joginder Walia, forum’s coordinator, stated that the Ladakhi residents, who aimed to raise awareness about environmental issues and the challenges faced by their communities, were detained by Delhi police late on the night of September 30. They were separated and held in various police stations, drawing sharp criticism from activists and supporters across the region.

The forum’s president BR Kaundal expressed concern over the police action, especially in the context of peaceful protests.

The Land Acquisition Affected Forum reiterated its demand for immediate release of the detained people. Kaundal said the government’s actions reflect a disturbing trend towards suppressing dissent and curtailing the rights of citizens who stand up for their land and resources. The forum has urged citizens to unite in support of those fighting for their right.
