Brief: Villager injured in attack
More than half a dozen assailants allegedly attacked and seriously injured a villager Raj Kumar at his house in Khalwara Colony, Phagwara on Tuesday night. The victim was admitted to the local Civil Hospital. The police have registered a case against five Dimpi, Bhottu, Happy, Amraj and Mani, residents of the same locality, and three unknown persons. Personal enmity was said to be the reason, the police said.
Hubby booked in dowry case
The police have booked Naresh Kumar of Bhannoki village in Phagwara in a dowry harassment case. Complainant Ranni of Shidham village had filed a complaint to the police that her husband had been harassing her for dowry since her marriage and mentally torturing her. A case has been registered against the accused after an inquiry and on the order of the SSP.
Five booked for assaulting man
The police have arrested five persons on the charge of assaulting a co-villager. The arrested accused had been identified as Jaspreet, Ajay Kumar, Ajay Kumar Jajon, Deepa and Neettu, all residents of Littran village. Aashu, a resident of the same village, complained to the police that the accused waylaid and attacked and seriously injured him and his friend on November 12 evening and threatened him.
2 peddlers held with ganja
In a significant achievement, the police have arrested two drugs smugglers and recovered 10 kg of ganja from their possession on Tuesday night. Phagwara SP Rupinder Kaur Bhatti said a police party, headed by DSP Bharat Bhushan, nabbed the accused at a check-point when they were coming on a scooter. The accused, migrants Dinesh Mandal and Rakesh Kumar of village Virk near Phagwara, attempted to flee but the cops nabbed them. The scooter being used by the criminals had also been impounded. A case under the NDPS Act has been registered.
Villagers booked for farm fire
The police have booked three villagers for burning stubble. The suspects had been identified as Kulwindar Singh of Bulanda village and Teju of Udhowal village. The police had received a satellite report in two villages and circle patwari testified it. In Nurmahal, Lakhveer Singh of Rajowal village was booked for burning paddy stubble.
Villager held with stolen bike
The police arrested a Kapurthala miscreant on the charge of stealing a motorcycle. The accused has been identified as Har Gopal Singh, a resident of Aahliwal village, in Kapurthala. The accused was intercepted at a naka and a motorcycle was recovered from his possession.
One killed in road mishap
Tarn Taran: One person died on the spot while others received serious injuries in a road accident that took place on Tarn Taran-Patti road on Sunday near Jandoke village. The accident occurred when a motorcycle was hit from the front by an unidentified four-wheeler. ASI Gajjan Singh, in-charge of the Naushehra Pannuan police post, said that the deceased has been identified as Vija Singh of Maniala village. The injured Akashdeep Singh of the same Maniala village has been under treatment at Guru Nanak Dev Hospital, Amritsar. Both were coming to Tarn Taran from their village on a motorcycle when they met with an accident. Bystanders failed to read the registration number of the vehicle involved in the accident. The driver of the vehicle managed to return to Tarn Taran side from where he was coming. Sarhali police have registered a case under Sections 106 (2), 281, 125 (A), 125 (B) and 324 (4) of the BNS against the unidentified driver of the unknown vehicle. OC
BSF seizes five drones
Amritsar: With a spurt in the number of drone intrusions into Indian territory to smuggle drugs and weapons, the Border Security Force in a joint operation with the Punjab Police seized five flying machines on a single day on Monday. While two of the unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV) were seized from Rajatal and Rattan Khurd border villages in Amritsar, three were recovered from Dal border villages in Tarn Taran border belt. Apart from drones, the BSF found two packets containing 1.1 kg of the contraband. The BSF said with dense fog starting to engulf the region at this time of the year, the ISI-supported Pakistani state and non-state actors have increased their attempts to push in drugs and weapons. “Reliable inputs by the BSF intelligence wing coupled with diligent efforts of BSF troops and Punjab Police decimated the nefarious designs of narco-syndicates from across the border despite harsh weather conditions prevailing all over the Punjab border,” said the BSF. 2 arrested with illegal weapons
Tarn Taran: A police party of the local CIA staff led by ASI Gurdev Singh has arrested two with illegal weapons. SSP Abhimanyu stated here on Monday that the accused have been identified as Hardip Singh Billa of Sangha village and Husanpreet Singh, alias Mirja, of Piddi village from whom two country-made pistols, two magazines and four cartridges were recovered. The SSP said the accused have been booked under Sections 25, 27, 54 and 59 of the Arms Act. The police have seized the motorcycle used in the crime. OC
