Vijay Singla applies for bail in Punjab and Haryana High Court
Chandigarh, June 13
Arrested in a corruption case, former Health Minister in the AAP-led Punjab government Vijay Singla today claimed that the case against him was an outcome of political rivalry and to wreak vengeance as he had “gathered unprecedented popularity among the masses”.
In a petition seeking regular bail filed against Punjab and other respondents before the Punjab and Haryana High Court, Singla submitted that he was arraigned as an accused in the FIR because his political opponents wanted to tarnish his image.
The petition has been filed through counsel Kanika Ahuja and Kirti Ahuja. It is expected to be argued before the HC on Singla’s behalf by senior advocate Vinod Ghai. The case was registered under the provisions of the Prevention of Corruption Act.
In his petition, Singla said without the commission of any offence, he was arraigned as an accused in the FIR lodged on the statement of SE Rajinder Singh who was on deputation in the Punjab Health Systems Corporation.
