A vascular and diabetic foot clinic was inaugurated at Christian Medical College and Hospital on Tuesday.

Dr Pranay Pawar, in-charge of the clinic, said the clinic is a state-of-the-art vascular and diabetic foot lab and is the first of its kind in the city of Ludhiana. The lab is equipped with wireless pressure monitors.

“Diabetes is a growing health concern worldwide, and India, with its rapidly increasing diabetic population, is at the forefront of this challenge. Among the various complications associated with diabetes, diabetic foot is one of the most debilitating and least discussed. The diabetic foot refers to a range of conditions that affect the feet of diabetic patients, including infections, ulcers and even amputations. This condition is emerging as a significant health burden in India, contributing to a decline in quality of life and an increase in healthcare,” he said.

One of the major challenges in managing diabetic foot is the lack of awareness. Many diabetics are unaware of the importance of foot care and early signs of foot complications. As a result, they often ignore symptoms such as tingling, pain or changes in skin colour. The delay in seeking medical help increases the risk of infections, which can progress to severe conditions requiring hospitalisation or even amputation.
