The centenary celebrations of Rashtriya Military School (RMS) Chail, the oldest military school in India, began with a 242-km ultra-marathon from Jalandhar, where the school was first established in 1925, to its current location in Chail, Solan district in Himachal Pradesh.

The marathon was flagged off by Lt Gen Ajay Chandpuria, AVSM, VSM, General Officer Commanding (GOC) of Vajra Corps, from the historical site in Jalandhar. A large number of alumni, known as ‘Georgians’ (a popular name for alumni of King George’s Royal Indian Military College and Rashtriya Military Schools), were present for the event.

Addressing the runners and alumni, the GOC congratulated RMS Chail for a century of service to the nation and expressed best wishes for the school’s continued role in nurturing future leaders for the Indian Armed Forces. The marathon route would pass through Balachaur, Pinjore and Solan, culminating at the world’s highest cricket ground in Chail, located at 7,000 feet.
