Vaccines to be administered free of charge on World Rabies Day
In line with the World Health Organisation’s global campaign to eradicate rabies by 2030, the Animal Husbandry Department of Rampur Subdivision is actively participating in World Rabies Day events. Govind Ballabh Pant Memorial Postgraduate College, Rampur, organised a poster-making competition for school students and an essay-writing competition for college students on the theme, ‘breaking the rabies boundaries’.
Senior Veterinary Officer Dr Anil Chauhan provided information about the upcoming events, noting that an awareness session on rabies will be held at the college auditorium on September 28. Officials from the Health Department will also participate in this event. Free anti-rabies vaccinations will be administered to all pets and stray dogs at the multi-dimensional veterinary hospital in Rampur, Pipti.
Dr Chauhan urged people to ensure their pets are vaccinated to help eliminate the threat of rabies. He also emphasised that World Rabies Day is observed annually on September 28 by the World Health Organisation. Rabies claims approximately 70,000 lives globally each year, with 18,000 to 20,000 deaths occurring in India alone. About 95 per cent of human deaths from rabies result from the rabid dog-bite.
