UT Admn plans big tourism push

To promote tourism in a big way, the UT Tourism Department has planned various initiatives to attract not only domestic but also international tourists to the City Beautiful.

Home-cum-Tourism Secretary Mandip Singh Brar today chaired a meeting with officials of the Department of Tourism and the Department of Cultural Affairs to discuss and implement measures aimed at improving the functioning of these departments and promoting tourism in the city.

One of the significant points of focus was improving on the existing facilities and engaging with citizens for their feedback on promoting tourism.

The Secretary recommended exploring the introduction of a day-pass system for tourist places. The meeting also discussed opening souvenir shops across the city. The officials were asked to explore ways to enhance the facilities on Chandigarh Tourism App.

Another key area of focus was “Tourism for All”. The Secretary directed the departments to promote activities for senior citizens. He recommended expanding the concept of Senior Citizens Corner, which currently exists in Sector 17.

Brar also suggested organising a Food Festival at the Plaza, Sector 17, with vendors from Punjab, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh and other states of North India.

Among other steps discussed at the meeting were weekly events in parks on Sundays, where citizens could exhibit their musical talent, and strategies aimed at further promoting significant landmarks such as Le Corbusier Centre, Sector 19, Capitol Complex and the Pierre Jeanneret House, Sector 5.

Dept invites suggestions

The Tourism Department has urged residents to give ideas on improving tourism. A Google Form is available on the official website of the department, and the public is encouraged to submit their suggestions within seven days via www.chandigarhtourism.gov.in. The link for the Google Form is also available on the Facebook and Instagram page of the dept.
