Members of the ETT Berozgar 2994 Backlog Adhyapak Union Punjab clashed with the police near the residence of Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann on the Sangrur-Patiala main road here on Sunday.

The scuffle continued for about 15 minutes. Turbans of some male protesters were dislodged during the clash.

A leader of the protesters, Surinderpal Singh Gurdaspur, said during the Congress regime, 5,994 posts of ETT teachers were advertised, but the list of 2,994 backlog ETT unemployed teachers had not been issued by the government so far, due to which there was resentment among them.

During the last Assembly elections, the AAP leadership had promised to complete the process of 5,994 recruitments of ETT teachers, but to no avail so far. In case the government did not resolve the issue within a week, they would be forced to launch a “pucca morcha” against it, he added. They would also go door to door to expose the AAP government’s “anti-people” policies during the Assembly bypoll, protesters said.

They urged the CM and Education Minister Harjot Singh Bains to initiate steps to issue lists of the backlog ETT teachers to fill the vacant posts.
