Gurugram: Underpasses closed for pedestrians

Taking lesson from the death of a person due to drowning in the underpass two years ago, the district administration has completely closed the two non-motorised transport (NMT) underpasses near Rajiv Chowk.

The closed underpasses include one leading from the highway to the Court Road, and another from Rajiv Chowk towards Sector 15.

Two years ago, a man who accidentally went inside an underpass near Rajiv Chowk due to waterlogging amid heavy rainfall and drowned. This year, the administration has placed barricades to prohibit the entry of pedestrians and deployed security guards at both underpasses to ensure the implementation of its directive.

A senior official said stone dividers and plastic ropes have been installed on both sides of the underpasses.

“These underpasses will be opened again after the monsoon is over. The district administration will close any other underpass as well, if required, during monsoon to ensure the safety of the public”, said DC Nishant Kumar Yadav.
