The University Grants Commission (UGC) has assured Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) students that the fellowships for Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) scholars will be disbursed soon.

A delegation of the Jawaharlal Nehru University Students’ Union (JNUSU) met the Joint Secretary of the UGC, claiming that the JRF scholars have not received the fellowships since May though the status reflects “generated” in the Scholarship and Fellowship Management Portal.

“The inconsistent dispatch of funds has created a significant crisis for scholars. The fellowship status on the portal has remained as ‘generated’, yet no disbursal has occurred. Research scholars need funds as they are in fields. Timely access to the fellowship is critical for attending conferences and conducting fieldwork, which are essential for our academic progress, as there are zero or barely any university funds which are allotted to scholars for these necessities,” JNUSU president Dhananjay told The Tribune.

“Furthermore, the students have not received their non-NET fellowships for months,” he said.
