Two youths booked for sexually harassing minor village schoolgirls

A group of persons today created ruckus at a police station and blocked the Jagadhri-Paonta Sahib national highway in Pratap Nagar town of Yamunanagar district, demanding strict action against two youths, who allegedly used to sexually harass six minor girls while the latter used to go from school to home and back.

The police received a complaint from the minor girls and a case was registered against two youths (believed to be minors) under Sections 6 and 12 of POCSO Act at the Pratap Nagar police station.

According to information, the girls were going on foot to their school in Pratap Nagar from their village today.

On the way, two youths belonging to a village in the Pratap Nagar area, allegedly started to sexually harass a girl, who raised an alarm, following which shopkeepers of the area and other people caught the youths.

The miscreants were reportedly beaten up by the public and handed over to the police. After getting information about the incident, a group of persons reached the police station and reportedly created ruckus there.

Later, they blocked the Jagadhri-Paonta Sahib national highway, demanding strict action against the accused. After getting assurance from the police, the protesters lifted the blockade about after half an hour. According to information, the minor girls told the police that the accused had been sexually harassing them for a long time, when they used to go to the school and back.

Tarsem Chand, SHO, Pratap Nagar police station, said a case had been registered against the youths under Sections 8, 12 of the POCSO Act.

He said the youths had been arrested and would be produced before a court on Wednesday. “The six school-going minor girls of a village gave a complaint of sexual harassment against the two youths. A case has been registered against them,” said the SHO.
