Two sisters die of suspected food poisoning in Kangra

Dharamsala, August 21

Two sisters have died of suspected food poisoning while their mother is in a critical condition. The family belongs to the Ranital area of Kangra district and the trio reportedly fell ill after having dinner last night.

Deshraj, a resident of Bareilly in Uttar Pradesh, along with his wife and daughters was living near Ranital for the past four years. He worked as a labourer. Yesterday, all family members had dinner and went to sleep. Later, Deshraj’s younger daughter Anshika (3) was taken to the Sub-Divisional Hospital at Dehra where the doctor on duty declared her brought dead.

His elder daughter Khushi (7) was taken to Dr Rajendra Prasad Medical College, Tanda, but the doctor there declared her brought dead. Besides, the mother of the girls was also taken to the Tanda hospital after her health deteriorated and her condition remains critical.

DSP, Dehra, Anil Thakur said that the police had taken food samples from the house of the deceased. A case would be registered under Section 194 of the Bharatiya Nayay Sanhita and a post-mortem would be conducted on the bodies of the two sisters. He added that the police would investigate what was in the food due to which the two girls died.
