Two sanctioned posts of medical officer lying vacant at Nagrota Surian CHC

Patients visiting the Community Health Centre (CHC) at Nagrota Surian in Kangra district are presently suffering as both sanctioned posts of medical officer (MO) here are lying vacant.

The situation has arisen as the only doctor attending to the patients here has now proceeded to Chandigarh for doing his postgraduation.

The CHC caters to a large section of people living in densely populated villages surrounding the town, who do not have other options available with them because of connectivity issues. The CHC has approximately 200 patients who daily visit the OPD.

Sanjiv Sandhu, a resident of the area, while talking to The Tribune, said it was apathetic on part of the government to leave people optionless. The place, with the Pong lake on one side, is cut off from the rest of the area, and under such circumstances, there is no care shown by the government.

The condition of the centre is deteriorating as there is inadequate support staff at the centre. “How can a single nurse do justice where at least five are required to serve day and night?” asked people. The sweepers here are also on a part-time outsource basis with limited commitment towards this centre. They only come to the place for a few hours in the morning and evening.

Dr Aman Dua, Block Medical Officer, posted here is somehow running the show by bringing doctors here from other places on a rotational basis.

Meanwhile, villagers like Dhian Singh, a resident of Nandpur village, have praised some doctors like Kumar Gaurav, who are here on deputation, for their commitment towards patients and sought their permanent appointment here.
