Two nabbed for cheating through hypnosis
The Delhi Police have arrested two persons accused of cheating vulnerable people through hypnosis, both with a history of criminal involvement, officials said on Wednesday.
The accused, identified as Malkeet Singh (24) and Gurubachan Singh (47), are residents of Tilak Nagar.
According to the police, a complaint was received on November 4 in Jagatpuri, reporting that two unknown individuals had cheated a woman by hypnotising her.
“A case was registered, and an investigation was initiated. A team was formed to arrest the accused and both were arrested.
They later confessed to multiple hypnosis-based scams,” said DCP (Shahdara) Prashant Gautam.
An officer involved in the investigation shared that the accused had previously hypnotised the woman, an employee at PNB Bank, around six months ago. They returned recently and defrauded her of Rs 80,000.
In addition to this incident, the accused allegedly cheated several others of smaller amounts, many of which went unreported, the officer said.
“In August, they approached a man in Jagatpuri, claiming they had a gold bangle and urgently needed money. They took the man’s mobile phone and Rs 5,000 tucked in its cover. They offered him the bangle, asking him to return with the money. However, when he reached home, he discovered the bangle was fake, and by the time he returned, the duo had fled,” the officer added.
