After the confiscation of two countrymade guns sourced from Bihar from two youths in Kangra on Monday, the police are investigating possible links of the accused with criminal gangs in Punjab. It is the first case in the region in which local youths have been arrested for procuring countrymade guns from Bihar.

SP Kangra, Shallini Agnihotri, while talking to The Tribune, said the police received information about two persons coming from Delhi towards Kangra with a large quantity of illegal arms. Based on this information, a team was formed under Kangra Sub Divisional Police Officer Ankit Sharma, and a nakka was laid near Purana Kangra. All vehicles coming or going towards Kangra were checked throughout the night. Passengers alighting from Volvo buses coming from Delhi at the Kangra bus stand were questioned. “Two persons who were carrying rucksacks could not give satisfactory answers which raised suspicion,” she said.

The SP further said that during checking of both the persons, two countrymade pistols along with empty magazines were recovered. A case under Sections 25 and 27 of the Arms Act, 1959, was registered at the Kangra police station.
