A resident of Katra Charat Singh, Shubham Kumar (23), who was seriously injured after several armed persons assaulted him on November 1, succumbed to his injuries at a private hospital here yesterday. The police have arrested two suspects, identified as Deepak Dogra and Himanshu Agarwal of Katra Charat Singh in this connection while two others, including Gogi of the same locality, are on the run. The police registered a murder case against the suspects.

Jeevan Kumar, an uncle of the deceased, told the police that on November 1, after bursting crackers on Diwali, Shubham along with his friends Karan Sharma, Sumit Kumar and Prince Sohal, all of the same locality, had gone to the market to get some food. When they did not return by 3 am, he went to look for them.

He said when he reached near Gali Lala Wali, he saw seven persons assaulting his nephew with sharp weapons and bricks. Among them were Deepak Dogra, Himanshu Agarwal, Gogi and other unknown persons. The complainant said he rushed Shubham to Civil Hospital to where doctors referred him to Guru Nanak Dev Hospital after giving first aid. As his condition was critical, they shifted him to a private hospital where he died yesterday, he said.
